Our Trip to the Suter Art Gallery

Here we are on a sunny morning r
having a run around after our morning tea and before we go in for our art lesson.

Esther explained showed us where the Torres Strait strait people lived and we looked at the exhibition of their artworks.

These masks were a little scary !

sometimes the people would wear head dresses when they were having a celebration.

We are being scary with the mask we made.

Are you scared by our scary expressions/

What a fabulous time we all had, looking at the exhibition and then making our own masks in groups. We can't wait until we get back to school so we can make a mask each!

Riwaka School visit to our local Marae. What a wonderful time we all had!

Here we are waiting with excitement before we entered the Marae.

The children at the Kohanga Reo were learning about their ancestors and the importance of family.

Room 3 were fascinated with the paintings on the ceiling of the Kohanga Reo
and and I'm sure some of them would like to see our ceilings decorated with paintings !

Seeing the carvings and the tools used was impressive .

The Marae has its own church and this building is very very old.

The carvings outside the meeting house all tell a story and are very important to the  local iwi. It was very interesting hearing what they represented.
